Track listing: A1 Thousand Knives 0:00 A2 Island of Woods 9:36 A3 Grasshoppers 19:24 B1 Das neue Japanische elektronische Volkslied 24:46 B2 Plastic Knives also known as Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto is Ryuichi Sakamoto's first solo album. The album is named after Henri Michaux's description of the feeling of using mescaline in Misérable Miracle. The title track begins with a vocoded Sakamoto reading Jinggang Mountain, a poem written by Mao Zedong during his visit to a well in the Jinggang Mountains in 1965. The song proper is performed in a reggae hymn style, inspired by Herbie Hancock's Speak Like a Child album. The piece. Ryuichi Sakamoto - Thousand Knives 1978. To favorites 0 Download album. At the time, Ryuichi Sakamoto was a respected session musician in Japan, working his way through the industry, when he was recruited by Haruomi Hosono for a one-off album of electronic exotica. The point was to send up the ridiculous orientalism peddled by artists like Les Baxter, reclaiming a fanciful Western take on the far East. But before it was released, Sakamoto slipped out an album of his own: Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto. Though the record was quickly eclipsed by his bands smash success, this reissue serves to reintroduce the world to an overlooked gem by a now canonical voice. Ryuichi Sakamoto 坂本龍一, Sakamoto Ryūichi, born January 17, 1952, Nakano, Tokyo, Japan is a Japanese musician, composer, producer and actor. He attended the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he earned a B. in music composition and an M. with special emphasis on both electronic and ethnic music. Sakamoto recorded his first solo album in 1978, which included the songs Thousand Knives and The End of Asia. Around the same time, Sakamoto joined the internationally successful Japanese synth J-Pop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra, along with co-founders Haruomi Hosono read more. 2019 2019 Remastering. Recorded from 410 to 727, 1978 at Columbia Studio No. 1, No. 2, & No. 4, Tokyo. Ryuichi Sakamoto's first solo album appeared before he formed Yellow Magic Orchestra in late 1978, after the young keyboardist had earned his M. in music from Tokyo University. Six long instrumentals make up this CD, but apart from a taste for Asian-sounding synth lines, they hint at very little of what was to come in YMO. Thousand Knives is a long disco-lite jazzy workout with a very un-synthesized guitar solo by Kazumi Watanabe who would later join YMO on tour and have his solo album produced by Sakamoto.
